Holiday Survival Guide

Holidays are HERE! Are you ready? Are you stressing about potentially ruining your progress or derailing from your goals? This post is here to tell you to chill. Let’s dive in.

Eat the things.

I’m tired of seeing all the “holiday survival guides”. Like how many burpees I have to do to cancel out holiday candy, or how I should eat chicken and broccoli at home before I go to a food-centric holiday gathering. Um no thanks to all of that. Life is too short to skip the fun.

That pumpkin pie with homemade crust. Those extra decadent buttery mashed potatoes and gravy. The dessert-worth sweet potato casserole. Those party apps (OMG cookie butter!!!). Have a cocktail or two with family and friends. It’s only like 4 or 5 meals total if you add up all the parties and celebrations in November and December. It’s not that big of a deal. Just stick to your regular routine between all the gatherings.

Also during this time, don’t punish yourself at the gym. In fact, you might as well take some extra time off to alleviate your body from that extra stress. If you want to use those extra calories to add a few more LB’s to you lifts, that’s ok but doing a whole bunch of high-stress intense cardio during this time isn’t going to do any good, and could potentially just send you into a spiral of stressfulness.

Try and relax. Be thankful. Be positive. Enjoy friends and family. Enjoy treats. Take some time to unwind. In the grand scheme of things, you’re going to benefit a lot more from all the parasympathetic work (decompressing) than you would ever benefit from all of the deprivation and beating yourself up.

Eat a reese’s tree! Then you can get back to your regular programming.
